LIVE! from Bauer Media Outdoor
Episode #118 comes live from the offices of our brilliant sponsor Bauer Media Outdoor, where we were discussing culture, context and creativity in the OOH space with special guest, Richard Biggs ECD at BBC Creative.
Richard’s work at 4Creative, Mother, W+K, Uncommon and now the BBC always seems to be part of the ‘here and now’. It’s a feeling backed up his peers, Hollie Walker, ECD at Mother who recently said:
“Smart, witty and wise beyond his years, Biggs has a wonderful knack for coming up with the sort of ideas that break into culture.”
Richard is already making his mark in his new role, transforming the iconic BBC logo blocks in MediaCity into a “Bee Bee C” incorporating Manchester’s historic worker bee symbol to celebrate the region’s cultural and economic contributions – part of “Made Of Greater Manchester” campaign. While for Traitors he’s presided over a huge mural of Claudia in Manchester and an ever-changing wall of the dead.
During his time at Uncommon he made business insurance seem cool for Hiscox, penned lots of lovely BA posters and created an immersive photography exhibition for Quaker Oats shot by Academy Award-nominated civil rights activist Misan Harriman.
We discussed Nike and how a brief for a single Raheem Stirling mural turned into a campaign of wall paintings that transformed the skyline of Sterling’s hometown.
And we got behind the spectacular “We’re the Superhumans” campaign which celebrated Paralympic athletes and disabled people as fiercely capable “superhumans”, which deservedly won two D&AD Black Pencils and a Cannes Grand Prix.
Richard, it was a total pleasure having you on the show with our very well behaved audience. Thank you so much for sharing the stories behind your work. Good luck at the BBC and please come back soon with more great work from the great outdoors.
Thanks to all our sponsors, who make the show possible:
